Show subordinates in an org chart at the level of their function, not the level of their hierarchy

Does anyone have a tip for showing subordinates of different rank so they don't appear at the same level?
My structure was VP (level 1), two managers reporting to VP (level 2), a supervisor under each manager (level 3).
One manager left, and we are not replacing her, so her supervisor is now a direct report of the VP at level 2. I can drag that supervisor back down to level 3, but when I reapply my layout, the supervisor appears at the same level as the manager, because they are now peers. I want all supervisors to appear on level 3.

My current solution is to add an empty position in the place of the missing manager, and reduce size to 0"h and 0"w, and then force the space under "Change Spacing" to a higher value at the spacing to subordinates field (custom). This works, but I'm wondering if there is a more elegant solution?
I use Visio 2010.

OK, I figured it out and thought I'd share. Step two under the solution is unnecessary - just reduce the size of the width to 0" and keep the height the same.
