This will hide the background drawings' "tabs" in Visio 2010:
1. Under the Developer tab, check "Drawing Explorer".
2. Right-click the "Drawing". (First selection - Visio file icon.)
3. Click "Protect Document...".
4. Check "Backgrounds".
5. Click "OK".
6. Close the "Drawing Explorer".
You will have to access the backgrounds by opening the "Drawing
Explorer" from now on.
