I've used Visio for years to create org charts without issues. When I open a
new chart and drag shapes onto other shapes to connect, they do not connect.
they just remain to where i've dragged them (i.e., on top of the other
shape). Shapes will not snap to grid or align. Re-layout shapes has no effect.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software, ensured I have the latest
service packs etc. I am using Visio 2007 in Vista.

Enable AutoConnect is checked on.
Snap, Glue, Drawing Aids are on.
Snap to Grid; Shape Geometry; Guides; and Connection Points are on.

Any ideas anyone? Merci!

It sounds to me more like the org chart addon has stopped working.
Is the Org Chart menu visible on the document>?

Can you create a new org chart successfully? If you can then the problem is in your
document. If not then the problem is in the org chart add on.

menu Tools ->Trust Center -> AddIns
1. ensure that "Disable all application addin" hasn't been ticked.
2. Check Manage -> Disabled Items

If the problem is only with your doument then that'll require more detective work.
