Hi,

I have the MSDN version of Visio 2000.

A couple weeks ago when I tried running Visio is wouldn't come up. Hangs
during opening a existing drawing with 100% cpu utilization.

So I tried repairing it. Didn't work. Hangs during opening a existing
drawing with 100% cpu utilization.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Sill didn't work. Hangs during
opening a existing drawing with 100% cpu utilization.

Just today I tried completely uninstalling according to KB282234. And then
reinstalling.

Now it will open a new blank drawing from the file menu. But when I try to
open a stencil it hangs opening the stencil with 100% cpu utilization.

Not sure what to do now.

System is:

Windows 2000 SP 4
Visio 2000 SR-1 Professional
Visual Studio 6
Visual Studio .Net
Visual Studio 2005

Oh, now that's cute. While I was writing this note, spell checking and
looking up versions, took several minutes, the stencil opened.

Hmm, I closed it and tried again thinking maybe now it's all setup. No go.
it still hangs on the stencil. So, why is it so s-l-o-w opening, and what
can be done about it?

Gary

Is it occurring with certain stencils or templates? Or does it happen with
any of them?
Which method are you using to open the stencil - from the File menu, for
instance?
If it is certain stencils - check the location - try copying a VSS file to
a different drive to test. Specifically, if it is in My Documents, try
putting one into a folder on your C:\ drive, for instance.
Also, if you are attempting to open a stencil that you downloaded or added
from a third party, check a few stencils which come with Visio to compare.
Finally - check to see if the stencil in question has code in it, or
requires an add-on to be loaded to function.
And check to see under Tools > Options whether the Automation Events and
VBA are enabled.
