I was asked by my boss to find out why every country map
under the sun exists in Visio, except for China and
India! Am I missing something???? Is there a download
that I can get these maps. Please advise...

Sigh...India, China and several other countries have borders in "dispute".
If Visio were to include the "wrong" maps in the "wrong" country, Microsoft
would be subject to fines--or simply not be able to sell the products at all
in those countries. Therefore, Visio chose not to include those maps for
which there is no single "right" answer in the English version which is for
sale in all countries.

Clear as mud?

Hmmm ... although you could export India or China from MICROSOFT MapPoint as
an image and then trace over the outline in Visio...

All English Mappoint products are not for sale in all countries. There are
regional editions. :-)

But if it works for you, great!

What a bizarre (mapped or unmapped) world we live in...

That seems somewhat ludicrous. When is this going to be
fixed? How can you leave out India and China??

Since these are border disputes between nations, personally I wouldn't count
on it being resolved anytime soon.

Since there is no immediate solution to the problem of the missing maps, is there a third party solution that would not be subject to said fines that we can get the maps from? Please don't say that MS would get fined for suggesting a solution!

Would Andy (MS) be able to advise us where a third party map could be found
or perhaps offer some kind of solution. I've got the entire world except
China, Pakistan and India, and probably some other smaller countries, but
China especially is a pretty big place! Older versions of Visio used to have
maps for China I thought.

Please help I'm deperate for a solution.

Cheers
Paul

I think you are out of luck here. I haven't heard of any 3rd parties
offering these kinds of shapes. Your best bet might be to locate a
pre-Microsoft copy of Visio to see if these shapes used to be in the
product.

I believe that the official reason is that the borders of these countries
are in dispute, but Microsoft wish to Visio sell in them.
