The exact error message is:

"An error (126) occurred during the action Save As.
Visio cannot save the file you selected"

I've checked the permissions on the folders, ran the program as
administrator, updated to SP1, and tried disabling both my firewall and
anti-virus programs.

Users are still able to save the document onto their desktop, then transfer
the file into the folder they wish to store it in, but this can be somewhat
cumbersome when creating a lot of new Visio files.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Does it happen on both UNC paths and mapped drives? Have you tried saving
to shares in different locations on the same remote machine? on different
machines? Like a Windows client (XP or Vista). Verify it doesn't happen in
other Office apps.

Aaron,

"Does it happen on both UNC paths and mapped drives?"

Yes, on both.

"Have you tried saving to shares in different locations on the same remote
machine? on different machines?"

Yes to everything, also on UNC paths and mapped drives. If I have a Visio
file on my hard drive (local) and I save it to any network location I get the
error.

"Like a Windows client (XP or Vista). Verify it doesn't happen in other
Office apps."

We don't have any Vista machines, just XP. No other Office app is doing it,
just Visio.

Something interesting that I did find however, is that when I save the file
as a 2007 document it can save to My Documents (which we have mapped to a
backup server) but nowhere else. Before when I was saving everything as a
2002 document it wasn't allowing me save there either.

Hope this information helps, thank you for your assistance.

See if this happens on new blank drawings with no templates applied (File >
New > New Drawing) and saved as Drawing (*.vsd). If it still happens, try
starting Visio in safe mode by holding down the Ctrl key and starting
Visio, you'll get prompted Yes/No to start in app safe mode. If you still
get the problem disable all add-ins in Tools > Trust Center > Add-ins in
Visio. Select the COM Add-ins > Go... button and uncheck each one. If
you're on Vista and have UAC enabled you'll need to run Visio as
administrator to uncheck the COM Add-ins. You can do that by holding down
the Shift key, then right-click the Visio icon and choose Run as...

If you still have the problem with all those problems you may want to try
Windows Safe Mode with Networking. Also see if any of those file shares
have offline files.
