Instead of passing the OAuth token to the app, Gmail simply redirects a user to the web version of Gmail once they enter their password on the mail.ru authentication page which is opened automatically when you select the IMAP manual configuration and enter your email address or use the automated configuration option.

So please, dear Gmail devs, let us either add mail.ru accounts in FULL manual mode or just fix this compatibility issue. It exists for almost a year and forces users to use 3rd-party mail apps. I'm pretty sure this is not what Google wants :).
Im working in an android email app using java and I download emails connecting with imap. I noticed my app takes a while to download emails in all providers, I tried some apps in the play store to find out if it was just me, but no, a lot of apps download emails same way I do, it takes a while. Until I found an interesting app, Mail.ru ( =ru.mail.mailapp&hl=en ). This app download emails instantly, like hell!, there is no way they can download emails that fast, I tried a few email providers, Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, AOL, Mail.com, Yandex, I even tried my own email domain and with all of them is the same, they download all emails instantly, you don't even notice.

smtp-mail.outlook.com.
Detected to be not working any more, for details please check this issue.
In any case whether outlook.com needs special preparation or setting changes or ms changed behaviour of mail server.
But what is clear now is that description here about outlook.com/hotmail.com seems to be wrong meanwhile!
Most of trials to get DC working at friends phones run into trouble because of provider issues and I could only get it working with many research or provider change!

I have a lot of email addresses, because I run a small businesses and have them separated by role. I choose to use IMAP; however, this means that the messages are never moved into the outlook "Personal Folder." Is there a way to establish a view that's simply all the mail from my many accounts, in one list, whether or not it's the Personal Folder?
I have setup 2 IMAP email in outlook. 1 is gmail and another is my company email. The gmail is able to send and receive. My company email is able to send but not receive. After unchecking IMAP scan as below, I am able to receive emails.

Step 8: Select IMAP . Scroll down to Incoming Mail Server and enter all the relevant details, then do the same for Outgoing Mail Server, as in the screen below and then select Next. Ensure that User Name is the full email address. User Name & Password are the same for both Incoming & Outgoing servers. Incoming Mail Server Host Name is imap.mail.ru Outgoing Mail Server Host Name is smtp.mail.ru
Step 4: Complete the settings as follows and click Sign InEmail Address & User Name: Your full MAIL.RU email addressPassword: Your MAIL.RU passwordAccount Type is IMAP or POP according to preference (IMAP is the default).Incoming Mail Server Host Name for MAIL.RU is imap.mail.ru Outgoing Mail Server Host Name for MAIL.RU is smtp.mail.ru For domains still in transfer or propagation, temporarily use the IP Address in place of Incoming & Outgoing Mail ServerIgnore Unable to verify account name or password

This will be your full MAIL.RU email address. Enter your full MAIL.RU e-mail address as the Account ID.Incoming(IMAP) mail server : imap.mail.ruEnter the e-mail account\'s Password.
