I am a fairly inexperienced Visio user, primarily only use Database, Reverse
Engineer. Am using Visio 2007(12.0.6336.5001) SP1 MSO (12.0.6320.5000).

I want to use the Oracle 11g client to connect to our 11g databases but do
not see it as an option in Reverse Engineer Wizard, Setup, ODBC Drivers.

How do I get Visio to use see/use the 11g client?

thanks,

I have successfully setup a connection to my 11G database through Visio. To
form a connection to your 11G database through the process you are speaking
of, ofr me, was to choose Oracle server for the visio driver and then setup a
ODBC connection that you see under data sources. I didn't use any of the
defaults listed under the defaults I created my own which was a data source
connected to my oracle 11g database. It is pretty much a simple procedure I
dont see where you are having problems? Can you elaborate on if this is the
process you followed

I select Database, Reverse Engineer, (Oracle Server) Setup, the 11g client is
not in the list of ODBC Drivers.

Again in the Reverse Engineer wizard, when I select Data Sources, New,
System Data Source, My 11g client is not in the list of drivers to select
from.

1.On the Start menu, choose Administrative Tools, and then click Data Sources
(ODBC) -----> Assuming you are running windows XP

Thanks Ryan,
We are getting closer to the root of the problem. Looking in Start, control
panel, administrative tools, Data Sources, Drivers shows that the 11g dll is
not there either.
The screen says to use the driver's setup program to install the driver,
which I don't know how to do, so I went looking on my machine for the
sqora32.dll. It isn't there. I am not sure what the next steps are. I did a
full install initially and am using the 11g oracle home just fine for Quest
Spotlight and Toad.
Next Steps?

A google search showed me I'm also missing the driver setup dll, so am going
back to the 11g install disk.

I believe there is an option during the setup of 11g, when I get to work
tonight I will install a new database (11g) and see if it does indeeed prompt
you as for which drivers you wish to install along with your database. In
fact I beleive you can alter an esxisting database to install or uninstall
various features, after it is installed... but I will post after I try this
out.... just seems weird that you are having this problem im no Visio or
Oracle expert but it was pretty simple to get this task at hand running and
working....... Perhaps something else is wrong with your machine?

Just to verify what operating system are you running?
and again exact oracle database are you instaling? I know 11g but you said
the basic?

I went back to the Oracle client install CD, looked at what was installed and
the ODBS driver was listed as not installed. Duh. So I ran the Custom
installation and now the 11g ODBC driver shows up in all the lists Visio
expects to see it in.
