I need to create assorted line connectors that I can show multiple
colors on such as a ribbon cable scheme and also a solid/stripe
scheme. Another version would be to add a regularly spaced numerical
identification to the line connector.

I need to make these as routable connectors that can flow around other
objects for electrical schematics.

I have searched online and tried some of the examples but I must be
missing some fundemental issue as I cannot seem to get what I need.

Thanks for any help on this

Have a look at custom line patterns.

I'm not sure that custom lines patterns will do all what you need.
I have previously had success with a grouped shape as a connector. This had
three lines in it, which are normally co-incident, but they can then be
separate colors, with different line ends, and each line and ends color and
visibility can be controlled by use of shape data/custom properties.

The line patterns are part of the solution. If he is trying to represent a
real world scenerio, then he may need more than just solid coloured "wires".
In telephony wire bundles can have twenty five, thirty-three or fifty five
pairs of wire representing tip and ring. Each pair is identified by the wire
colour and a stripe. The matching wire has the colouring reversed. So for
each wire representation, you would need a wire colour and a stripe colour.
For simplicity, each tip/ring pair can be represented by a single wire.

Agreed ... the solution requires both approaches.

So when do we start conning Visio Guy into creating such a shape? ;-)
