Hi,

I've been trying to find out why i can't create a windows 2008r2 on Virtual
Server 2005 R2 Sp1. I am getting this error;
"attempting to load a 64-bit application however this cpu is not compatible
with 64-bit mode"

I searched for information and some of them make sense like;
-enable the VT in the BIOS. My system is Poweredge 2950. I enabled it but
still no luck.
-apply SP1 update KB948515 but system disconnects and vm's disconnected. had
to re-install.
-others are saying that VS 2005R2 Sp1 does not support x64 bit OS? Is this
correct?

My system:
Poweredge 2950 x64, Windows 2003 R2 x64, MS Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 x64

Thanks
TagaR

Hi,

Virtual Server and Virtual PC just have support for 32bit Operating Systems,
like Windows XP. windows server 2008 R2 has support only for 64 bit
processors. The error message shows that you can not install Windows server
2008 R2 in a Virtual server virtual machine.

You can't run a 64-bit OS in a Virtual Server VM, it only supports 32-bit
guests. You'll have to run some other virtualization product like VMWare,
virtual Box, or Hyper-V...
