VS2005 R2 Enterprise x64 SP1 with hanging WS03 x86 guest that cannot be terminated

One of our Windows Server 2003 x64 SP2 computers running VS2005 R2
Enterprise x64 SP1 (with updates for later service packs and VM additions
13.820) has a hung guest that cannot be terminated, the entire parent VS
must be rebooted. I was able to shutdown the other guest OS running on the
server without issues, rebooted the parent server. I renamed the VSV from
the hung guest OS and was able to restart the guest. After logging onto the
guest via MSTSC, I did a warm reboot and the guest hung again at the
starting Windows. This time I also tried to stop/restart the VS 2005
services, and the service hung. The physical parent server has no hardware
issues logged, and no indications of problems. Any idea on how to
troubleshoot this issue?
