I have VirtualPC 6.0.192.0 installed on a Vista Home premium
computer. I'm trying to install Kubuntu 8.04 from a CD that
I got from Canonical. No joy. I've already used this CD to
install the Wabi install on another computer running WinXP
SP2 and the CD worked fine.

In Virtual PC's environment, the Kubuntu installer is telling
me that the CD's checksum is invalid.

" [367578.649583] isapnp: checksum for device 1 is not validd
(0x89)

And the install bombs at this point. I don't think that
there's anything wrong with the CD so how can I get past
this? Thank you.

Use an imaging software like WinImage to create an ISO file from the
Ubuntu CD. Then capture that ISO file in the virtual machine's CDROM
drive and reboot the virtual machine (Action/Reboot).

But you have to be aware of the numerous issues with Linux kernel 2.6
that prevents installation in VPC2007 unless you follow a specific
procedure to set bootloader parameters etc.
Search this forum for Ubuntu and you will find detailed links.

Done. Didn't help any though. I did a Google search on
"Kubuntu Virtual PC" and pulled up a ton of information from
folks with similar problems. Perhaps I'll try a different
distribution (like DSL). :-)

I'll keep plugging away.. Thanks!

You seem to not have done as I suggested (search *this* forum for
ubuntu). I did a 3 minute hunt through and these are the useful links
I found (in chronological order, oldest first):

I suspect at least the later ones of these will be sufficient to
install ubuntu in vpc2007.

go to www.ubuntu.com and download ubuntu 804.1 I386 iso 32 bit and then burn
it to a cd in iso format then put the cd in the cdrom and restart your
computer when the computer restarts select install and then follow on screen
prompt but rember to to use the guided full disk format when setting up
ubuntu then once you have ubuntu on your computer you can install kubuntu
this is a free download if you have any other questions you can email me aat

Why are you posting this here (in the Virtual PC newsgroup)???
As far as I can see you are advicing to install ubuntu on the *host
PC* (the physical PC itself) and it has nothing at all to do with
VPC2007....
