Do you start the setup from a network share? If yes, try it local.

Hi Wolfgang,

I had copied the Service Pack file to C:\Temp\ so unfortunately this didn't
seem to be the reason.

It must be in fact some strange MS-DOS kind of thing that's keeping the
program from starting at all.

But I've found another solution now: Searching the Net I've seen that
there's SP4 available. I've downloaded that and it worked.
