taking outlook express to a new pc

we're moving countries and leaving current pc behind. I don't want to lose
old emails - currently held in outlook express. Have set up a hotmail
account and added that to express but don't know how to transport either the
program or even just the email folders. Do i need original software or can i
just save program files/email folders to an external hard drive and download
at the new pc?
