Years ago you used to be able to download the COM spec. from microsoft.
I think it was known as a "white paper" but I could be wrong about
that. I had it as a word doc at the company I used to work for. It
was excellent and I'd like to look at it again but I can't find it
anywhere. Anyone know where I can get a copy?

Thanks

Simon

Whoops,

I replied to quickly with my thanks - this is really not what I
wanted...

Is there nobody out there that remembers this document?

Yes, that is *almost* right! What you've given me here is the contents
stub of the document - i.e. there is no body to it - have you got the
actual full text?

Thanks for checking

Like yourself, I was surprised to see this document seemingly disappear from
the Internet. I've been basically trying to Google on your behalf and came
up with the those two links... I didn't appreciate the last one was only the
table of contents.

I believe this document was distributed as part of the Platform SDK or the
MSDN Library. Have you got any old copies lying around?

If I have time, I'll try to load one of my old copies and see if I can
locate it for you.

I loaded the Platform SDK from 1999, but had no luck finding the spec.

Sorry!

Thanks again for checking Brian,

good tip for a place to look anyway - I'll see what I can find in the
collection of msdn CDs we have at work if I can handle the Bureaucracy
of getting access to them.

I found it here
http://groups.csail.mit.edu/medg/ftp/emjordan/COM/

and have downloaded it locally.

BTW I stumbled across the document because a search string I stuck into
google got a narrow enough number of matching pages/docs.

I have just tried again with the following actual phrase from the spec:

"Component Object Model Programming Interface" and I get quite a few
decent
hits (posting this knowledge in case the above link fails in the future)
