Hi Everyone:

I've posted in 3 newsgroups because I was unsure which was appropriate,
please respond to all three if possible.

We have a blind friend who would like to play Party Poker and Poker Stars.
We have a voice recognition program that responds to numbers, bet, raise,
etc...but we don't know how to access the available controls on either of
these sites to have the program "read" them...if we could hook into their
controls the rest would be easily adopted. Does someone know the names of
these controls or can someone walk me through some basics to hook into them?
We would be using Visual Studio with VB as the language. If we can get these
controls exposed, it would be a simple matter to utilize the voice program
with some code.

Thanks

You should consider attempting to get the poker sites themselves to add
features for blind support, or supply the info you're looking for directly.

Most efforts to read and interact with their software would undoubtedly be
similar to various attempt to write "robot" players to play the games (i.e. *cheat*),
and you can be pretty sure that just about every time they update their software,
they will (quite intentionally) make a few changes specifically in order to defeat
precisely those kinds of attachments.

Hi Bob:

That's exactly their reaction, and they sure are not volunteering any
information. There are poker programs that capture the feed and present
"odds"--even those guy's are very tight fisted about their methods. We even
offered to pay for a customized program and medical records about our
friend.

Basically, this seems like a market, granted a select market that would
benefit from such a handicap enhancer. Therefore, here we are attempting to
find out what we can do.

Appreciate the feed back, hopefully someone will have an alternative
solution or the solution to make this a reality.

Are these programs web apps or windows apps?

My company offers a screen scraper program used for testing,
documentation and training ( http://www.insiteobjects.com/recorder.htm
). Originally, we licensed a video driver from dolphin technologies (
http://www.yourdolphin.com ). Their SuperNova screen reader product is
pretty good and since version 5 you can train graphic images. You may
want to check into their product before attempting this yourself. Its
a big job.

Too bad its a game... The Americans with Disabilities Act is a pretty
big stick to swing at business software to force compliance with MSAA
or other screen readers. Being a game, the software is not "required'
to perform your job function and thererfore is exempt from the ADA
umbrella.

Yes, certainly there are people who know ways through some of that stuff.
But not likely any that they want ending up archived in public.
