I finally got rid of my 98se desktop and ME laptop. I installed VB
6.0 on the new desktop (XP Media Center Edition) a couple of months
ago and don't recall any problem, but I can't get it installed on my
new laptop which runs XP(Home Edition).

Specifically, right after accepting the terms a page of the setup
wizard asks for product number, name and company. But the "Next"
button is greyed out and I can't get any further along.

Advice appreciated.

Thanks

Did you provide the requested information? Specifically, is the product id
correct? You sure you didn't mistype it? AFAIK, the name and company are
irrelvant, but if the product id is incorrect, then yes, I can see Setup not
allowing you to continue. Sorry I can't be certain of any of this, but I
have VB from an MSDN subscription and that doesn't require entering a
product id.

You hit it! I had copied the number from the box, but the number it
wanted was the one on the CD case. The "Next" button became enabled
and the installation went smoothly.

Will VB6.0 act any differently under XP than it did under 98SE? I'm
not a programmer and only use VB for a few personal programs.

Thanks for the help.

No, VB6 shouldn't "act" any differently, but there are different issues you
may need to contend with under XP that you didn't have to under Win98. Most
of these involve security and limitations under non-admin accounts.
