Where are the latest Merge Modules for VS6 SP6? We use the msmenu.exe (dated
3/24/04) from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=F9D19334-61EC-48CF-BB4E-3AEC65EDD50B&displaylang=en.
It appears there were updates to the runtime redistributables on 5/24/09 in
"Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Service Pack 6 Cumulative Update"
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=CB824E35-0403-45C4-9E41-459F0EB89E36&displaylang=en,
but that only updates an installed VS6 IDE. Are there updates to the merge
modules for our customers that use apps built on VS6/VB6? Thanks.

Nope. The one originally released for SP6 is it.

Thanks Mike. Does that imply that Microsoft wants our development machines to
have security updates, but not our customers? How would a customer get the
security updates from KB957924?

No, you're supposed to distribute components you're legally permitted to.
Also, there's a difference between security fixes and bug fixes. Security
fixes are almost always available via Windows Update (or Microsoft Update)
and is the customer's responsibility to keep up to date. Bug fixes may or
may not be available via Windows/Microsoft Update. Components (such as
OCXs) that contain bug fixes are your responsibility to distribute to your
customers. The fact that MS has not released a merge module with all the
latest versions of OCXs is mostly due to VB6 not being supported by MS
anymore.

Create your own merge module(s) with updated versions of files that your app
uses.
