I just updated to XP Professional from ME. I have
reloaded VB 6.0 Professional Edition several times but
cannot use create "Data Projects." Old VB programs
containing database references also do not work.

The error message is "Microsoft Data Environment Instance
1.0" is missing. Clicking "Project\References" verifies
it is missing. Trying to create a data project creates
the following error.

Line 2: Class {C0E45035-5775-11D0-B388-00A0C9055D8E} of
control DataEnvironment1 was not a loaded control class.
Line 0: The file C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual
Studio\VB98\Template\Projects\DataEnv.Dsr could not be
loaded.

The file "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\VB98
\Template\Projects\DataEnv.Dsr" does however exist.

What am I missing? Thank you!

David,

The first thing I would try is using REGSVR32.EXE to manually register
MSDE.DLL and MSDERUN.DLL in the folder C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Designer.
