Does anyone know how to decrypt VB3's FRX files as we are converting
projects from 3 to 6 and being able to read the property settings within the
FRX would enhance our conversion project greatly (esp. were 3p controls are
concerned)

Thanks

Have a look at this url, maybe this will do it:

http://www.iscreations.com/frxsplit/index.htm

What is FRX Split

FRX Split will extract files contained in
Visual Basic Form Binary Files. (*.FRX)
When you assign an image to a picture control
in Visual Basic, its contents are
copied to a special file with the extension of
FRX. Each time you add an image or
icon to your Visual Basic Form, the contents
are appended to the end of this file.
You can think of the FRX file as a ZIP file
without compression. There are special
"header" sections contained in the FRX file to
indicate where one file ends and
when the next file begins.

FRX Split can correctly identify these header
segments and "split" out all the
individual files contained in the FRX file.
The program will automatically identify the
following file formats: ANI, AVI, BMP, CUR,
GIF, ICO, JPG, WAV, RTF, and
WMF.

Download your copy of FRX Split here.

New Version Available for Download

Support for older file formats has been
enhanced in version 1.1 of FRX Split. See
the Product Updates section for additional
information

Why Use FRX Split

FRX Split is an extremely useful utility to
help you be more productive. It has one
purpose and it does it well - extract all
usable files from Visual Basic FRX files.
Here are some other uses of FRX Split:

Recovery Tool - the original icon for
your Visual Basic form was lost or
changed. Use FRX Split to extract out the
ICON file to be used in another
Visual Basic Forms.
Reuse Files - you downloaded some Visual
Basic applications from the
internet. Some forms contain images or
icons you want to use in some of
your applications but the author didn't
supply the individual image files (they
are only supplied on the form) Use FRX
Split to extract the images, icons,
etc from the FRX file to be used in new
applications. (Make sure you get
permission from the original author
before using the files in your
applications.)
Salvage Damaged Visual Basic Forms - you
lost the FRM file or the
FRX file is damaged. FRX Split can
extract all usable files it finds in the
FRX file - The FRM file is not required
during the extraction process. If the
FRX file is damaged, the program may be
able to extract some of the files to
allow you to recreate your Visual Basic
Form.
Other Uses - Any thing else you can think
you can do with FRX Split.

Compatibility with Versions of VB

FRX Split has been tested with Visual Basic
version 2.0 - 6.0 forms and has a high
success rate of extracting the files. The
program works best with the standard
controls of Visual Basic, but also works well
with Active-X controls. The program
will correctly identify "usable" files and
skip other information that is stored in the
FRX file. Some examples of "data" that will be
copied to the FRX file:

The icon for your Visual Basic Form
BMP, JPG, or GIF image that was assigned
to your image control,
background of your Visual Basic Form, or
a button
The custom mouse cursor (.CUR) that was
used for a button
The images that were used for the Tool
Bar

FRX Split will find all of these files that
will be contained in the FRX file and extract
them out into the separate files to be reused
in other Visual Basic Forms
