Error 1601

I am attempting to install a Verizon USB727 Modem. During the software
install I get a "Windows Eroor Message 1601"

Can anyone help me with this issue?

This newsgroup is for Visual Basic, not Vista Business. Please post in
groups with "vista" in the name. However, error 1601 means the following:

"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you
are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not
correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."

Well I do have a similar message but its not for VB or anything else but its
Error 1601 for installing any program please help
