No sound in Media player

I'm having a problem with Media Player
Realtek HD Audio card
Media player will play MP3s OK and avi, wmv mkv videos but any mpg video and
also Media CENTER files dvr-ms or wtv have no sound.
The files will play on Divx player, Gom player, VLC player and even
Windows media center but not on media player.
not getting any error message it just has no sound.
Anyone any ideas ?

I think the problem was Arcsoft Totalmedia
I have uninstalled it and now windows media player seems to be playing all
files OK :)
