dpm backup storage pool

Hi,
Is there a way to do full backup one dpm's storage pool to external hard
disk without using the secondary dpm?
My existing dpm server is Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition SP2,
32-bits.
The size of storage pool for dpm is 1TB.
My main concern is, if we were to use the secondary dpm,
first, we need another server (hardware) to be the secondary dpm
second, we need to use the bandwidth (i.e., our network will become
congested due to that and speed of backing up is slow).
