XP3 and IE8

Had to restore files, and eventually re-install/repair XP2.
Then the updates started pouring in.
I was ok until, IE8 and XP3, and now I cannot access my ie sites.

I do the xp diagnostics, and it tells me to open 3) 1 http, 1 https, and 1
ftp port.
But when I did this in my firewall, nothing changed. so I un-installed the
XP3.
Still have the IE8, and no problem.
Anyone with any suggestions?
