SQL Backup Error

Dear all
Since a while I am getting an error while trying to backup a database. The
job should be executed every night and during the week I am getting the
following error:
BackupDiskFile::CreateMedia: Backup device 'D:\SQLDMP\Mercan.dmp' failed to
create. Operating system error = 32(error not found).
On the weekends it works fine. Only from Monday to Friday it fails.
The database has a size of 32GB. All other database backups work normal.
Does anyone have a solution? Should I perform a checkdisk?

I forgot to say that OS is Windows Server 2003 and SQL Server is 2000
