SQL2005 Developer on XP SP2 MDAC 2.8 SP1 does not list the Flat File source
in the Import wizard. Does anyone know how to get Flat File support?

We've re-installed SQL2005, MDAC, SP2, to no avail.

Thanks in advance,

Bob

Bob,

When you run the Import and Export Wizard, move to the Choose a Data
Source screen. In the Data Source dropdown you should see it there.

Andrew,

That's the problem. The Flat File Source does not appear in the dropdown
list.

Bob,

Do you have Integration Services installed? Can you access the Flat
File Source by using it from Business Intelligence Development Studio?

I wonder whether that may give you an error about it not being
correctly installed. But that's a guess.

Can you indicate your setup?

Thanks

Integration Services is installed, but when I go to the Datasource dropdown,
I only get the following 3 options: MSMQ, SMOSERVER, SMTP, WMI. This only
occurring on one installation running Wndows XP SP2 and hotfixes, Latest
MDAC, Visual Studio 2005 (and Business Intelligence). We ran a complete
install of the SQL 2005 Developer edition.

Thanks,

Bob,

One of my installations is essentially identical to the setup you
describe. I get 18 options in the Datasource dropdown on the Choose a
data source screen in the Import/Export Wizard.

In BIDS try this:
1. Create a new Integration Services project
2. Create a Data Flow Task by dragging a Data Flow Task shape to the
design surface
3. Switch to the Data Flow tab and look in the Toolbox for a Flat File
Source shape.

I am interested to know if it's in the Toolbox. If it's there, whether
you can configure it (right click and select Edit to do that).

I had the same problem - on one computer (running XP SP2) there was no Flat
File option on the Import/Export Wizard and the Excel wizard crashed out
with some nasty error message (even after reinstall). On another virtually
identicaly computer all options were present and working.
On both computers I loaded SQL2K5 SP1 and both are working fine - the Flat
File option has now appeared and the Excel option is working fine.
