Hi,

I don't have Office 2003 installed in my Vista laptop (rather I have Office
2007). When I try to install SQL Server 2005, I get an error when trying to
configure the OWC11 (office web components). It tells me it cannot find the
required files and suggest I look into c:\Program Filess\Microsoft
Office\OFFICE11\1033\SETUP.CHM.

I don't see the connection, however I do see that it has something to do
with not having Office 2003 installed. What should I do?

Thanks in advance,

Hi Juan,
I understand that your SQL Server 2005 installation in your Vista system
failed when the installation process tried to configure OWC11 components.
The error said that it could not find the required files.
If I have misunderstood, please let me know.

I performed an installation of SQL Server 2005 Dev Edition in My Vista
Enterprise system, however I could not reproduce your issue. The
installation worked fine at my side.

You may first try manually installing the OWC downloaded from this web site:
Office 2003 Add-in: Office Web Components
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=7287252C-402E-4F72-
97A5-E0FD290D4B76&displaylang=en

After you install the Web OWC components, try installing your SQL Server
2005 again. To make a fresh and clean installation, please uninstall all
the SQL Server 2005 components previously installed from Program Features
in Control Panel.

If it does not help, for further research, I need to collect the SQL Server
2005 setup files which are located in the folder "
%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG". Since the
files are large, I recommend that you first mail me
(changliw_at_microsoft_dot_com) an email response and then I will create a
workspace for your uploading the files.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to let me
know. Have a nice day!

Best regards,
Charles Wang

Thanks, as it were, the problem actually was the computer came with Office
2003 preinstalled and I had uninstalled it and I figured OWC11 had been gone
as well, yet they were actually present (as I looked at Control Panel). That
was the problem: the installed OWC11 was incompatible with the one in
SQLServer2005 installation. So, I uninstalled this OWC11 and was able to
install SQLServer 2005 with no problem...

So problem resolved!!

Hi Juan,
Thanks for your response.

I am very glad to hear that this issue had been resolved by yourself. I did
not think that there was an old OWC11 installed on your computer since you
mentioned that you did not have Office 2003 installed. Anyway,
congratulations!
