I had to remove and reinstall SQL Server 2005 Standard.

Despite having removed the the two report server databases, the roles, the
directories and application in IIS and cleared the instance tag in the
registry for Repoting Services, I am still getting when trying to install
Reporting Services

"An instance wth the same name is already installed on this computer"

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup
------------------------------

An instance with the same name is already installed on this computer. To
proceed with SQL Server Setup, provide a unique instance name.

I have Microsoft CRM installed which requires Reporting Services and I
assume it requires it on the default instance.

What entrey is making the machine believe that reporting services is still
installed. It does not appear when using the arpwrapper /remove.

With thanks

Hello Mark,

From the problem description of the post you submitted, my understanding
is: You would like to reinstall an existing instance of SQL Server 2005,
however, after you tried all the methods including removing the databases,
the roles, the directories and application in IIS and clearing the instance
tag in the registry for Repoting Services, it still did not solve this issue.
If I have misunderstood about your concern, just feel free
to let me know.

After some research, I believe the cause of this issue is the same as what
you have realized: you did not remove the SQL server completely and clearly.
I recommend you follow this KB article to do this

How to uninstall an instance of SQL Server 2005 manually
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909967

If above KB article does not help you uninstall the instance of SQL Server
2005 successfully, you may also try to use the Microsoft Windows Installer
Cleanup utility. Please refer to the following steps:

1. Download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup utility from
this link:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/9/D/E9D80355-7AB4-45B8-80E8-983A48D
5E1BD/msicuu2.exe

Note: although it is released as a Microsoft Office update, it can be used
to fix Windows Installer.

2. Then, run it from Start-> All Programs-> Windows Install Clean
Up.
3. Please select all the SQL Server entries one by one and click Remove.

If anything is unclear in above KB article or above troubleshooting steps,
please don't hesitate to let me know and I will be glad to help.

Have a nice day!

Best regards,
