I am trying to install MS SQL 2000 (Evaluation version) on Windows XP
professional . Inserting the CD, autorun picks up. I select "SQL Server
2000 Components and then "Install Database Server", The setupsql.exe and
sqlstp.exe are running as processes. However, nothing happen after that.
Do you have any idea what is going on? It is very bad, it don't even
give me an error message.

Thanks in advance

Have you tried running it from the command prompt? the setupsql.exe that
is. Also, pls turn off 3rd party and non-essential services.

Have you tried copying the install files to a local disk, and then runnig
setup?

Thank you for your reply. I tried all kind of ways like
1)running it from command prompt
2) moving the install to hard disk and firing it from "SQLEVAL" folder

Nothing worked. But, last night I stopped all less importent services
and and processes that are not "System" and not "Local machine"

and ran the setup again .. Guess what!!

It worked and I was very happy ...

Again, Thank you for your response.

i have the same problem and closing all unnecessary services was no
solution. (copying to hdd also did not work).

i have a sony vaio tr5mp, maybe they have something patched into
windows. i have a second problem too, the system restore point app of
windows xp does not work. i can make system restore points from the
command line, but the normal gui for it does not run. maybe its the
same problem ?

any suggestions ?

bye,
Uwe

Shutting down all kinds of services one by one..from

Control pannel --> Admin Tools -- > Services

As well Start up programs using Start --> Run --> msconfig

And

Removing the script blocking if you have anti virus software on your
computer.

Try all the above three steps. that should work. I am not sure about
your Windows system restore points. I am not much familier with that
facit of windows. sorry for not being helpful in that regards.
