HELP! _INS5576._MP error during installation

During the installation of SQL2K Dev edition to W2K Pro.,
the process terminated with an error:

Developer Edition:_INS5576._MP - Application Error
The instruction at "0x42b980fd" referenced memory
at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".
Click OK to terminate the program

I have installed VS.NET Enterprise Architect before hand.
I think it may be one of the problem causes???

In searching similar case in the newsgroup I tried the
following options,
- set the location to English (US) same as the install disk
- rename some of the DLLs in VS.NET directory
- the "-SMS" option in sqlsetup.exe command line

but can't solve the problem. Is it an InstallShield bugs???

Hi Dary,

I have done some tests and found that when we install SQL Server 2000 on a
computer with some locales, it may generate an access violation in the
_ins5576._MP.exe module. This module is the InstallShield module that is
used by the SQL Server 2000 setup program.

To workaround this program, please try these steps:

1. Go to Control Panel --> Regional Options, click the General tab and
change 'Your Local' from the current [Locale] to another one, for example,
Chinese (PRC). And click the 'Set Default' button to change the system
locale to other locale, for example, Chinese (PRC).

2. Manually remove SQL Server files and registry keys. For more
information, please refer to the Microsoft knowledge Base article Q290991
'HOW TO: Manually Remove SQL Srv. 2000 Default, Named or Virtual

3. Try to install SQL Server 2000 again.
