Hi all

I'm having problems opening the Database Properties windows for ONE database on ONE computer using ONE specific account.

When right-clicking and selecting "Properties" for this one specific database, the properties window appears to open minimized but there is no way to get the window to open/restore/maximize.

The account is the one I've always used (and has full admin rights on the workstation and sysadmin rights on the database).

The computer is the only one I use.

If I create a test user account, or use my laptop to connect to the server, then I can open the DB properties window fine.

I've reinstalled SQL (deleting all registry keys and local folders with configs/preferences etc stored).... but it didn't help.

It all started Friday after I tried to shrink the database which hung for a long time. It's not worked since then.

Every other feature works perfectly. Other databases can also have their properties loaded.

Thanks
Matt

So if it works from another machine, then this is something funky on
your workstation. Did you try rebooting?

So we always advice against shrinking databases, although usually not of
this reason...

Hi Erland

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Yes during the uninstall/reinstall I rebooted several times. Also deleting any reference to SQL in the registry and the local Users folder. It's definitely something strange on the workstation but I cannot figure out what. I don't want to have to rebuild my windows profile, such a ball ache.

What is weird is that every other database properties can be viewed no problem.

Also, if I RDP into the workstation from another workstation (so the same windows profile, just a different screen resolution etc) then I still have the same problem.

Do you know of any other local storage of configuration with the windows profile / registry other than c:\users\username\my documents\SQL Server Management Studio ?

Thanks
Matt

I seem to have fixed it! :-D

Opened the properties (which remained like it was minimized or on another screen). Then maximized it via Task Manager which worked. Then I chose to cascade the windows and moved it to a different monitor. After closing and reopening it now works fine again.

Phew!

Sorry this was posted in the wrong forum but thanks very much for your time
