Is there any way to disable a trigger inside a procedure? Or do I have
to delete it and recreate it? I basically don't want the trigger to fire
while doing updates during a procedure running.

Try:
ALTER TABLE MyTable
DISABLE TRIGGER MyTrigger
You may have some permission issues here.
