Hi,

I,m a brazilian student and I need to build a data
warehouse and, latter, build a Data Webhouse to a project.
But I really don't know how to create a Data Warehouse
with Microsoft SQL Server 2000. I have the software in my
computer but I don't know how to build.

Please, send me an e-mail, any help would be appreicated!

Ps: sorry, but my english is not very good.

Ana.

Don't worry Ana, it won't last for ever.

How many TB? Since you are an student, you
should start with a smaller DW. Say 100 TB.

Your English is better than mine! (And English is also
my second language.)

Now, on a more serious note: to create a DW, you
should learn about concepts like:

- dimensions
- facts
- slowly changing dimensions (SCD) of type 1, 2 and 3
- star schemas

... first.

Go to www.google.com and enter search keywords
listed above + word "overview" or word "introduction".
For example:

"slowly changing dimensions" overview

I´m brazilian too, maybe i can help in moment. Will be very difficulty
to find any literature about this issue in portuguese, I found cases of
the brazilian companies and even some studies of the professors, but
neither good book. Build a Data Warehouse is a hard task, happen in long
time, with several steps. Are you know and will be work with SQL Server,
Analyses Services, dimensions, cubes, DTS, stored procedure ?

cubos, as dimensões, numa boa.

Ana.

Sorry for having writen the e-mail in Portuguese, I didn´t thing that it
would go to cause problems. I tried to answer the previous message from
Fernando Medeiros.

Therefore, I decided to rewrite the email in English...
Well,I already have all the project ready and the data organized. I
started to implement with the SQL Server 2000 and Analysis Server, made
the cubes, the dimensions.
But, I decided to install the Microsoft Commerce Server because the
final objective is create a data webhouse and I thought that with this
software would be more easy.

The problem is that I´m not finding a way to make tests in these cubes
without having the Webhouse in the Internet, because the software asks
for some data regarding server, logs of user, and I do not have these
information.

i just want to do some tests in the data warehouse created to analyze
the results.

Thank's.
