error on sql when connecting thru vpn

Hi Sir,
We have a system which is running thru SQL 2005. I bought a VPN Router so that our branch office can be able to connect thru our system.
I have no problem connecting to our VPN and i can access our server. But, when I tried to access our system I got this following errors:

The error message that you don't reach SQL Server. Saying why is impossible

on a distance without further knowledge about your setup. I can only offer a
couple of things to check:
Is SQL Server configure to accept remote connections?
Is there any firewall?
Is this a named instance? In such case is the SQL Browser Service running?
