Hi,
I am new to SQL. I have a WPP provided web site with an SQL Database on it
through their SQL Server. The WPP created the database and DSN for me. I
am looking to find out what tool I should use the manage this Database from
my Internet connection. I need to define Tables, Fields in the tables, User
Security and so on. Please help me if you can, even if it is to direct me
to a different news group.
It has been suggested to use "SQL Enterprise Manager". If this is the only
option, how would I get a copy? Is this something I can get from my WPP?
Is there a tool in Interdev? I have tried to create a data Connection in
Interdev, but I can't find a way to define that it is not on my LAN (It is
over the Internet).
Thanks,
Paul Coleman

Paul, I use Cold Fusion for all of my database needs, and I love it. It is
priceless to me, as I am in the web database business. It is fairly easy
to use and it allows you to do just about eveything you would want to
do with your database from the web. Check out www.dfw-metro.com for some
sample stuff, and drop me a line if you want more info on web databases using
cold fusion... Regards, Stan

What a shameless plug. I was asking about SQL Server.

Paul,

I would suggest asking your WPP to provide you with the SQL Install CD.
This is the only place I know of that has the application. The downside to
this (to the WPP, of course) is that the SQL Install CD ALSO includes all of
the installation files for SQL server itself. But, if you installed only
the client utilities you would get the SQL Enterprise Manager and any tools
you would need to administer your database(s). The only other options (as
mentioned by others) is to (1) buy a copy of SQL Server or (2) get a
demonstration copy of SQL Server which will include SQL Enterprise Manager
(and an eval version of SQL Server itself). Unfortunately, Microsoft does
not separate their utility from their server. I hope this helps.
