I'm using xp pro and I've installed sdk5.1 but text to speech won't work.

In control panel - speech - speech properties - text to speech I keep
getting the message 'This voice cannot be played. Please try selecting
another voice or selecting a different audio output device'.

I try selecting different voices and output devices but nothing seems to
work.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks

Hi Rob,

There are various issues that might be causing this:

There may be a problem with your soundcard driver installation or your
Windows Audio service.

There is also a problem that can occur where the user lexicon file gets
corrupted causing these kind of symptoms. See the following KB article which
includes a workaround. {Or wait for Windows XP Service Pack 2 which contains
a fix}.

Let me know if this helps,

Dave Wood

Thank you Dave.

Xiaolan Xing of Microsoft provided me with the fix, which was:

1. Open C:\Windows\Inf
2. Right click on sapi5.inf and select install
3. If prompted for files, insert Windows XP CD and browse to CDROM:\i386

Thanks for your great support!

Rob
