Using SourceSafe 8 (2005) I have a project with complex non-default working
folders set up. The machine name was changed and for that user those working
folder mappings have now vanished. I don't want to remap the folders and I
can't change the computer name back. Is there a simple way to get my working
folder settings back without doing it manually? On a previous version of VSS
I thought there was a text file somewhere holding the mappings of folders to
the machine and user and you could fix it by editing this file. Is this no
longer possible?

Within the VSS sub-folders you will find a directory named "users".
Within there, you should see a directory for your VSS login, and within
that directory a file named ss.ini.

See if you can backup the file, and then modify entries in there to the
correct machine machine name. If that doesn't work, and you need to
re-map at the very least you might have the Working Folder assignments.

We have half a dozen VSS databases in different folders. Only one of them has
a users folder.

We use a mix of VSS versions: 6 & 8. I was thinking that maybe v6 uses the
user file and v8 doesn't. None of the ss.ini files in the one user folder
contains the name of the computer I care about.

I assume VSS v8 uses a different working folder mechanism.

Thanks for your help

VSS 6&8 both store the working folder info in ss.ini files. You may
ask your administrator to check it.

Also, you can take a look at this article to see if it helps:

Thanks.
