Questions regarding web deployment

Recently I began testing the web deployment functionality in VSS 2005.
Based upon that experience, and a little research I have a few
questions.

1. Is there a mechanism to prevent deploying source code? For a bit of
perspective, how much of a security concern is having c# source files
in our webroot?
2. Is there a mechanism within visual studio or VSS to precompile the
project prior to deployment? (Precompilation In ASP.NET 2.0:
http://odetocode.com/Articles/417.aspx)
3. Are there any performance tweaks for deployment via FTP? It's quite
slow. Fortunately deployment to UNC paths has adequate performance.
