The client administration piece has been working for some time now.
However, now I get the error...
MMC could not create the snap-in. The snap-in might not have been installed
correctly.
Name: Update Services
CLSID: FX:{8b6499ed-0241-e032-6508-da4b1c879d7e}

I have tried deleting the wsus file from C:\Documents and
Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\MMC to no avail. Nothing
else I have found on the web or on Microsoft's site appear to be helpful. I
have also completely re-installed MMC 3.0 and un-installed and re-installed
the client admin piece.

XP Pro SP2, MMC 3.0, .NET 2.0 and .NET 3.0 with all available updates.
HP 6120 Laptop if that helps.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
John R

Check on the EventViewer of the client and see any errors that appear soon
as you try to open the MMC

Cheers

Thank you for the reply, however no events are logged in any of the event
logs on the client or on the server.

Just delete/rename %windir%\system32\mmc.exe.config

Thanks for the tip, however the filename that you quote, 'mmc.exe.config'
does not live anywhere on the system.
