Service Pack 3 (KB936929)

I have tried three times now, and it says that the download "failed

What can I do now?

I'm having the same problem. I got error code 0x8020002B, whatever that
means. I also can't download the activeX control to sign up for windows
update (whatever the new permutation of that is.) Thanks, Lori.

Have a look in %winfir%\WindowsUpdate.log for errors or failure
messages.

I had the same problem at first. I closed any windows program and other
unnecessary prgrams (weather eye). Didn't have to disable the
firewall/anit-virus though. Then I had to actually uninstall the actual setup
launcher for Windows Live. The installation went through. At about half way
it stopped and asked for the CD of Microsoft Office 2006. All went fine then.
Did the restart after it was done, then went back to Microsoft Update and
found more updates (express) for MO. Finished it off by doing the Custon
update. All is fine now! I hope you got it downloaded too!:)

My problem is a little different. My G/F was shown the XP SP3 download on
windows updates. She has Win XP Home Edition (Media Center). Me?....I go to
the update site and all I find is documentation on SP3. I am also smacked
with it being only for networks. If that is the case then why can my G/F get
it as a download on a standalone PC and I can't ????

disippointed!

My problem is different again. I can download SP3 & other updates but cannot
INSTALL them. No error codes, just reporting that "The following updates were
not installed" etc. Any clues please?

Try this website http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949388/ , it explaines what
must be done first like remove files that cause conflict. Other problems,
causes and solutions.

Besides these I have some corrupt files to clear up.

Need help. Like many others have been trying to install Service Pack 3 but
it fails - no error message. Just says unsuccessful.

Downloaded the file separately, saved and ran it from the desktop and this
time got the message "Service Pack 3 Setup cannot update a checked (debug)
system with a free (retail) version of Service Pack 3, or vice versa."

What the??

Any hints or clues would be appreciated.

I am also trying to download SP3. Each time the restart fails and I have to
restart from the DOS menu to retrieve the last settings in order to have
windows return in a usable manner. And download history inisists that SP3
has been installed successfully -twice! But authomatic uipdate keeps sp3
coming back and mucking up my computer. No response from MS.

Did you guys ever get the help you needed?
You should also, or perhaps first, Go to START then HELP and SUPPORT CENTER.
I'm having 'a situation' after I installed it and The MSN Knowledge Base can
be very helpful. One of the things it showed me is Article ID. 950717, which
looks to be everything that could go wrong installing SP3 for XP & what to do
about it.
Just thought I'd try to help. Hope everything is OK.
