Broken after reboot

I've had WSUS 3.0 running succesfully and apprently quite smoothly for a few
months, on SBS2003 (SP1 and Windows Server SP2).
I recently re-booted the server for some other reason, and now WSUS appears
to be very badly broken.
During re-boot I get a message saying that 'at least one service failed to
start'. More importantly, in the Event Viewer:Application log, I get a series
of 7 consecutive errors, all relating to WSUS. None of them produce help when
I click on the microsoft link. The errors are: -
Source:- Windows Server Update Services
description:- Self update is not working EventID:- 13042

Source:- Windows Server Update Services
description:- The reporting Web Service is not working EventID:- 12002

Source:- Windows Server Update Services
description: -The API Remoting Web service is not working EventID:- 12012

Source:- Windows Server Update Services
description:- The Server Synchronisation Web Service is not working
EventID:- 12032

Source:- Windows Server Update Services
description:- The client Service is not working EventID:- 12022

Source:- Windows Server Update Services
description:- The SimpleAuth Web Service is not working EventID:- 12042

Source:- Windows Server Update Services
descrition:- The DSS Authentication Web Service is not working EventID:- 12052

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Although I suspect it looks like a
re-install might be the answer.

Have you looked up the event codes on www.eventid.net?

Hello Susan,

Many thanks for your post. I did not know of this site previously - most
useful.
However, having now worked my way through all the errors, it seems that
everything relating to WSUS is as it should be. Similarly IIS apears to be
correctly configured.

The one remaining thing that all the solutions suggest is to 'troubleshoot
any issues with SQL Server before proceeding'. I suspect that SQL is the
problem, because we did have a disk very nearly full situation at the same
time as this happened.

So, this Server does not have the full SQL, just the desktop version, which
of course is also being used by Sharepoint on this SBS2003 system.

There are no errors specifically pointing to problems with the SQL server,
so where do I find out how to 'troubleshoot' or health check it?

I'll search of course, but if anyone can point em there that would help
enormously.

Thanks,

Cannot connect to server

The DSS Authentication Web Service is not working.
The SimpleAuth Web Service is not working.
The Client Web Service is not working.
The Server Synchronization Web Service is not working.
And so on.......

The answer is this.... Go into IIS, Web Services Extensions. In the right
pane you will see all the Web Service Extensions, if you have done any
updates to .NET "ASP.NET vWhatever's status will be prohibited, you need to
change this to "ALLOWED". Now you can open WSUS... YOU ShOULD NOT HAVE TO
MAKE ANY OTHER CHANGES TO IIS>....... If this works let me know I would love
to here it. E. Sp...@univstainless.com

Hi neo,
Thanks for your response. I did in fact correct this problem some time ago
(probably should have closed the enquiry!).
I don't recall exactly what I had to do, but I think it was pretty much what
you said below.
I certainly didn't have to re-install or anything major as I had thought I
might have to.

I am setting up SCE 2007 server on a pretty secure system which caused alot
of issues. I had several errors that I had to overcome, below is the one I
spent the most time working.

I also had the following error messages:

Source:- Windows Server Update Services -description:- The reporting Web

Service is not working EventID:- 12002

******************************
Source:- Windows Server Update Services -description: -The API Remoting Web

service is not working EventID:- 12012

Service is not working EventID:- 12042

******************************
Source:- Windows Server Update Services -descrition:- The DSS Authentication

Web Service is not working EventID:- 12052

RESOLUTION:
I resolved my issue by removing the GUESTS account from the USER RIGHTS
ASSIGNMENT:DENY ACCESS TO THIS COMPUTER FROM THE NETWORK.

The account that is used for anonymous access is a member of the GUESTS
group. (This account is typically the IUSR_computername account.) see-->

YES!...going into "Web Service Extentions" and "allowing" ASP 2.0 fixed my
problem! Thank you!

This was also the solution for me :

Thanks RonPaskowski !

I had the problem for a few months, and I realised the problem started after
running the Security Wizard on the servers... A lot of things went wrong
afterwards, but I guess the servers are more secure now (even if a lot of
changes must be undone in order to make things work)
