I am having difficulty configuring SNADS to run over an TCP/ip lan
connection (token-ring) between two AS/400 running with OS/400 v3r7.

Does anyone have any recommendations about the line, controller, and device
descriptions on both machines along with the distribution services settings.

I know that this is a broad question. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

you will need an lu6.2 (APPC) connection. If you don't have it already,
create an APPC controller: CRTCTLAPPC
and prompt it with F4.

Give it a name, (the remote AS/400 name ?), enter the name of your ethernet
line description
and check the following keywords

APPN *YES
LINKTYPE *LAN
RMTCPNAME your remote system name (find it out with DSPNETA on the remote
system)
ADPTADR your remote system ethernet adapter (on the remote system
type WRKLIND, selection 5)

Do that on both systems. Vary both controllers on (WRKCFGSTS *CTL xxx)

If autoconfig is on (system value QAUTOCFG) you can now passthru with
STRPASTHR xxxx. The system will create an APPC Device.

Then you have to configure SNADS
CFGDSTSRV option 1 (Create the queue)
give the queue a name and enter the RMTLOCNAME. It is the same RMTLOCNAME as
in your APPC device description.

CFGDSTSRV option 2 (Routing)

Enter the system name (1) of your remote system (group is not the necessary)
and your queue name in all 4 queue fields. This system name must not match
the remote systems name exactly, but it will make life easier.

Then end SNADS with ENDSBS QSNADS *IMMED and start it again with STRSBS
QNADS

Don't forget to have at least one user on the remote system to whom you can
send netfiles, spools etc. and your user profile in the directory entry
WRKDIRE). Here you have to enter your system name from the routing above
(1) or that of the remote system. Add the real Userprofile name if it is a
user on the local machine.

That's it
