We have a bank customer using Ms SNA (HIS) server (or IBM Communication
Server)
to achieve X.25 host connection with Host Mainframe (OS/390),
and perform file transfer from the host system (Interbanking Payment
Systems).

Due to security guidelines customer wishes to apply the following security
patches:
Internet Explorer 6 sp1, KB873374 KB832483

AND ALSO:

KB820888

KB823182

K824105

K825119

K826232

K828026

K828035

K828741

K828749

K830352

K835732

K837001

K839645

K840315

K841872

K841873

K842526

K870669

- Coud you pls advice if the above patches could drop the X.25 link
(inactive) and the File Transfer process?
- Furthermore, is it recommended to run also (Norton) Antivirus program on
this Server at the same time?
Could this program affect as well, the host link connection and the file
transfer?
- Have you ever experienced similar side effects?

Any advise, will be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Regards, Nick Dakoronias

Nick,

I've never known a security patch or IE upgrade to affect SNA/HIS server. Not
had any problem with anti-virus software either.

We have been running Norton Antivirus on our server for quite a while
without a problem. Also we apply all critical security patches. I only ran
into a problem once with a service pack that updated a print driver.
