To save us the time and cost of a full-scale SMS 2.0 implementation,
is it possible to have only one Master server if we're planning to use
it only for the hardware/software inventory features? Our company has
over 30 physical locations, with 4500 employees spread throughout, but
except for the corporate office most of the offices have less than 100
people. Also, we have a lot of remote users (dial-up and VPN). Does
anyone have any experience with this sort of implementation?
In the past I have done something similar with Seagate DMS and Intel
LANDesk, but the SMS paradigm doesn't seem to address this situation
very well. Any advice is appreciated!
Sincerely,
Mark Fenkner

Take a look at Special Operations Suite at
www.specialoperationssuite.com This is a product that includes most of
the features of SMS and quite a few things not available in SMS, such
as innovative ways to view the collected information. Special
Operation Suite is very easy to install and maintain, it does not
require any additional infrastructure besides Active Directory. You
can install it and have your first inventory information available in
a couple of hours.
