Problem:

Access Denied when crawling a remote file share

Environment Info:

Search Server Express
Windows 2008 Server Standard - 32-bit, member server
PDF iFilter installed
The remote share is on a Windows 2003 Standard server in the same domain.
The remote server is a domain controller

What I have done:

I have added a Crawl Rule that specifies an account to use.
I tried a regular user account as well as a domain admin account.
I verified both have access to the folders.
The share permissions are Everyone Full Access. I control access via ACL.
I specified the account name with an without the domain prefix.
Pulled out some hairs trying to find an answer to this on the Internet.

I always get the same error in the Crawl Log:

Access is denied. Verify that either the Default Content Access Account has
access to this repository, or add a crawl rule to crawl this repository. If
the repository being crawled is a SharePoint repository, verify that the
account you are using has "Full Read" permissions on the SharePoint Web
Application being crawled. (The item was deleted because it was either not
found or the crawler was denied access to it.)

Any help is appreciated.
