As soon as I enabled DMZ on my router, I expected people outside (Illinois
to be exact) to get in. Are there firewall restrictions related to DMZ?
Shouldn't the DMZ work in an on/off capacity?

Sounds like a Linksys box.

What they call a "DMZ" is not really a DMZ. As far as I can tell it is a
1-to-1 NAT config. How the people at Linksys came up with calling it a
"DMZ" has never made any sense to me.

Anyway,... people don't "get in". That is the wrong image to create in your
mind. What it does is create the same effect as having you PC directly on
the Internet with a Public IP#,...and that does not automatically mean
people would "get in" to your PC if you did that with it either.

You have to actually setup the PC so that something on the PC is made
available to someone.
