Environment:
I have a SPS2003 Server Farm consisting of 3 servers; Web, DB and Index.
Problem:
Last night all 3 servers were restarted following Windows Updates. I am now
having problems with my search service within portal and WSS sites. After
investigation it appears that my Microsoft SharePointPS Search Service is not
starting correctly and produces the following Event Log notification:
Event ID: 7023
Source: Service Control Manager
Description: The Microsoft SharePointPS Search service terminated with the
following error:
A member could not be added to or removed from the local group because the
member does not exist.
Troubleshooting Tried:
I have tried re-assigning the service to the SYSTEM account and restarting,
and then back to the SPS Admin account we have created - service still
terminates with error above.
I then tried removing my Index Server from my Server Topology and then added
it back in again. A restart of all servers then took place but still the
service is terminating.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Additional Information:
It is probably pure coincidence that this occurred following a restart
required by Windows Updates but here is the list of Updates applied that
meant a reboot was necessary:
