in the liast week we've started getting errors when accessing some websites
"Unable to connect to database. Check database connection information and
make sure the database server is running. For tips on troubleshooting this
error, search for article 823287 in the Microsoft Knowledge Base at
http://support.microsoft.com. "
I've looked at the article, and there may be something for me to follow up,
as my application pool is using the network Service account, and not a domain
account - so I'm not sure it has the proper access to the SQL server.
But, what confuses me is that these problems have cropped up only in the
last week. And, when I get the database error accessing a site from my
desktop, if I RDP to the server and open a browser I can't seem to get the
error.
Also, the error at my (and others) desktop is intermittent. It may work on
5 refreshes then fail on the next 5.
Finally, in the event log on the server are lots of errors like this:
#50070: Unable to connect to the database wss_Sharepoint02_eapm on
eawpprdshpt01. Check the database connection information and make sure that
the database server is running.
with various db names that it can't connect to (for various sites) - but I
haven't seen any errors connecting to the Sharepoint config database on the
local SQL server.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
You could take a look at the database configuration using the SharePoint
admin site.
Check to see if the correct servername appear on the contentDB for the
sharepoint web site.

There are several reasons could cause this issue.
Please follow these steps:
1. Check the Database server to verify the SQL server is running properly.
2. Use the Filemon to check whether there are any access deny issue.
3. Make sure you do not have the Backup Express running in the database server.
4. Make sure the Application Pool Identity which Sharepoint Server running at and the Sharepoint
Timer Services start up account have proper permission to access the Database server.
5. Make sure you have applied the SP2 for WSS.
