I have setup my mail on STS to be sent thru my ISP mail server,
mail.kingwoodcable.com. My web server and my normal working machine are on
the same network. I have no problem setting up subscriptions and invites to
my email address. However, everytime I try to send an invitation to somebody
outside of this location via normal email but STS gives me an error message
"

An error was encountered while sending the invitation and no e-mail was
sent. The details of this error are: The email address
'xyz...@earthlink.net' is unknown".

I get the same result no matter whose email address I use.

My good friend Colonel, you are getting this error because
the mail server you are using does not host the mail
addresses you are attempting to send the invitation to.
To prove this, if you can, create yourself another email
address on the mail server, other than your current
account, and send yourself an invitation. You should
receive the invite No Problem.

I will submit a workaround on my site sometime this week.

I'll look forward to the workaround. What is strange to me about your
comment is my mail server (i.e. the ISP's mail server) doesn't host mail
addresses of the people I send mail to normally yet the mail is delivered to
them. Now if the mail server in question is the one that shows up with the
IIS and/or server extensions I can see your point. Of course I didn't set up
the local SMTP to be my mailer but rather my ISP's SMTP.

Colonel, your ISP delivers your mail to your recipients because your logon
to the SMTP server in order to send messages. SPTS simply uses the SMTP
server as a relay point. When setting up a mail server, allowing users to
use the SMTP server as a relay server would open your ISP to a world of SPAM
emailing bandents.

I'll contact you soon with a solution.
