Hi guys, i'm actually an administrator of SPS.
I already read lots of documentation about SPS.

But now i need to know somethings about STS, but i don
t have other server, and i can't another dual-boot.

I read some of STS, but i need to know in-depth how is
the integration of STS with MSDE or SQL Server database
(as its repository).

And if anyone have some experience on merging STS and SPS
for crawling and searching purposes, i'm needing some
help.

Tks in advance

1. This is the right place for this question. Please don't post the same
messages in both this and the .caml subgroup. Almost all of us here read
both.

2. There are two kinds of integration with the database.

a) Document Libraries - The database contains a reference to the address in
which the document is stored.
b) Lists - The database contains the full contents of the respective list.
So for a list with say a Title, a Question and an Answer field the contents
of all these three fields would be stored in the database.

3. SPS and STS. There have occasionally been early newsgroup messages on
this. I've never done it so hopefully someone who has will come in. (Here !)

Hi Marco,

As for merging STS and SPS for searching purposes:

I've heard that after installing SP1 for SPS it is possible to index STS
Webs through a content source.

Since I have not installed SP1 I have no experience with that.

If you don't have SP1 installed you can do the following:

1. Share your STS Webdirectory at fileserver Level.
(e.g. c:\inetupub\wwwroot\myteamweb)
give your SPS Crawl Account Read Access.

2. In SPS now make a Fileserver Contentsource which crawls this fileshare.

3. Alter the indexing properties. The \\fileserver\myteamweb location should
be replaced with the http:\\webserver\myteamweb URL when desplaying search
results.

I've done this and it works perfect.

greetings,

Leo

1. OK, sorry about that.
2. I didn't install STS, so i can't use it. I wanna know
where the files are physically located in case of
Document Library? In SPS, we use Web Storage System.

Thank you

Hi Marco,

the documents are stored in the file system.
They are located in the subweb's directory on the Webserver.

greetings,

Leo
